Wawanesa Life Segregated Funds

What is a Segregated Fund?

Segregated Funds are investment funds which are offered by life insurance companies. The deposits you make to a Segregated Funds are used to purchase certain investments, the values of which fluctuate based on market conditions. A Segregated Fund is similar to a mutual fund. However, a Seg Fund has a number of distinct advantages:

Death Benefit Guarantee - All Segregated Funds must provide a guaranteed value upon your death of at least 75 % of deposits made to the Segregated Fund.

Maturity Guarantee - All Segregated Funds must provide a guaranteed value upon maturity of the plan of at least 75 % of deposits made to the Segregated Fund.

Beneficiary Designation Available - Naming a beneficiary assures you that at your death, the proceeds of the policy will be paid directly to your beneficiary without passing through a will. As a result, there will be no inclusion of Segregated Fund assets in your estate for probate or legal fees. An added benefit is that the funds will not be held while the estate is being settled.

Possible Creditor Protection - If certain beneficiaries are named, the Segregated Fund may be exempt from seizure by your creditors while you are living and at your death.
